Hi all,
We are just selling our much loved 1993 Autosleeper Clubman GL after 7 years of happy times with her. We decided we needed more space to go with expanding grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus the wish to travel further afield and take longer breaks. With not a huge amount of money available, we have now settled on a 2004 Bessacarr E795 at a knock down price. It has been resprayed inside to a modern grey finish to a good standard and been completely reupholstered. However although having covered only 47000 genuine miles and with a new MOT, there is no history and lots of work to do. The previous owners took out the cooker and worktop and have replaced them with a new full width worktop and cupboards, but nothing to cook on. We will be adding a new cooker, microwave and small air fryer, plus tidying up the cupboard doors. The EHU does not appear to connect with the E200 unit, so no mains at the moment, and there are various other things that we will need advice on. The van runs beautifully and looks good, so hopefully she will soon be able to do all we need.

Looking forward to joining in with the forum chat

Roger and Julia

Welcome. Looks great. I bet O'Learys or some other breaker will have the original oven for one of them. I had to replace mine on my old Kontiki years ago when I smashed the door. It worked out cheaper to get a complete oven in the end. I think it was about £100. Long time ago though. Changed vans since then.

Hi Barry,
Thanks for the welcome and I will be looking at the possibility of a used replacement. We’ve found a couple of new domestic cookers in Argos with LPG conversion kits. They are a good price but not sure if a domestic cooker can be used in a MH environment. Can‘t really see why not, just need someone to confirm that.

Welcome to you and your smart MH to the forum.

I am puzzled, you say in the title `Just Joined´ but Your Avartar says you joined Jan 21st 2019  no doubt there is an explanation, but I am puzzle what the explanation might be?

Very odd! But welcome anyway!

Regarding a domestic cooker, I suspect they're heavy and you need to be aware of your max weight - I suspect 3.5T?

Do a search on here on 'payload'. And I'd suggest you take the MH to your nearest weighbridge to find out how much leeway you have with weight.

Thanks for the welcomes, and I am as puzzled as you are about the dual identity. I bought my Autosleeper Clubman in 2018 and joined the Autosleepers forum a little later. It’s quite likely that I registered with this forum a bit later still, hence 2019 date but don’t remember joining or posting. That does explain why I couldn’t register as Roger G. I didn’t notice the two different avatar dates and names until just pointed out. I suppose that’s what I can expect in old age, another 16 months and I’ll be 80 :-(

Hi Roger

Our first MH was an e795 and we enjoyed a good year using it before moving to a fixed bed model.

re Two accounts - if you just stick to one of them I'll delete the other.

Hi Greg,

If you delete the old account that would be good as I don’t remember ever posting on it.

We looked at a fixed bed version of the E795 and felt that great as the convenience of a fixed bed is, we would be losing a lot of the daytime and evening living space. Then the one we bought was also such a good price as well, so easy decision for us.

#14 ·
You posted on it 20 hours ago!

I didn't know there was a fixed bed version of the e795 tbh! Every day is a school day :)

We used to stow the bedding above the cab in the double bed area there but tbh carrying it through to make the bed up; making the bed up; climbing over Blod in the morning when I got up first; putting the bedding away; putting the area back to a lounge, just was too much of a PITA for us daily so we switched to an Auto-trail Comanche.

I did like the e795 though. It was a good drive and a great introduction to MHing for us.

We might be old, but we are both big kids at heart, so Julia decided that she liked the idea of using the over cab bed as it could be left made up, pushed up out of the way and leaves the lounge completely clear, so for us a good solution. Although we have only had the van for a week, it’s definitely a good drive and a big step up from our Clubman. The E795 is very similar in size and layout to a Swift Royale that I had many years ago. Julia had a Rapido then an Autotrail Comanche in a previous life, she loves the E795.

We looked at so many vans before buying this one that you made me think that it may have been a different 700 series that the French bed was in, possibly a 760?

No bother Roger - I've been called worse, and that's just by the wife...

What engine size do you have? My e795 was a 2008 with a 3 litre engine which had a chain, so no need to worry about changing the cambelt.

#17 ·
If it has a cam belt then it would be sensible to get a new one fitted so you Know its been done. A broken belt can wreck an engine.
I like the look of the inside, like others I would say you need a dedicated leisure cooker, not a domestic one due to weight restriction. As for the overcab, I wolkd advise you try it out on your drive for a couple of nights, you might change your mind about the practicality of using it. Been there, done that.

I always used to enjoy using the over cab bed in my Swift Royale a few years ago and Julia is well up for it, at least until she falls out of bed. Might be a job trying it out on the drive though as we live in a terraced house 😄 Our Clubman GL just fitted into the bottom of our back garden with 12“ to spare but the new one is 7ft longer. At least if she changes her mind we’ve got two more bed options.

😂 You'll fit right in here!
Jiwawa, that’s a good point about the weight. The original cooker would have been a Smeg 400, so I should be able to find the weight of that and compare to the domestic cookers we were looking at.
I'd still recommend a weighbridge so you know what's available.

Good morning Greg, the engine on mine is a 2.8 although I haven’t got round to thinking about chain or belt yet. I had a long chat with the previous owner who informed me that it was serviced twice a year while he owned it so probably already done if necessary. My usual mechanic is very familiar with the engine having had one in a van for a long time, so I will get him to check it over soon.

The 2.8 is a belt every 5 years or 60,000 miles I think 🤔 off hand I can't remember but I am sure someone on here will keep you right !.
you have a nice tidy van 👍.
I have the swift bell air 730 with the over cab bed it's made up all the time and saves a lot of hassle making up the seats plus the bedding is out the way so more storage space !.
The Biggie is weight for any van your max weight is on a plate under the bonnet and possibly on a plate next to the hab door get it on a weighbridge with a full tank of fuel and a full tank of fresh water and possibly 2 full gas bottles that will give you your max unladen weight
It might be heavier than you think but your van might be a max weight of 3850 kg or more your as mine is on 2 axels with a max weight of 3850 kg
Giving mine 900 kg to play with !.
You probably passed your driving test before 1997 so you can drive up to 7.5 tones on a ordinary driving licence just had to be over 18 !.
Grandfather rights 👍.
The 2.8 jtd engine is a reliable unit and routine maintenance is easy as everything to maintain is right where you want it to be from a maintenance point of view!.
If you are wanting to keep your van for a while I recommend lanogaurd as it's really good stuff and easy to apply just spray it on and you are done !.
If possible apply inside as a light wind can cause over spray and it looks like tar spots on the paint job you get remover but it's about the same price as the lanogaurd but it's better stuff than all the rest out there!.
That's not my words it's from an independent person on a tester video !.
Hope you have lots of interesting trips in your new van 👍.

Hi Andy, we definitely intend to keep the overcab bed made up, then it’s just a matter of pulling it down and climbing in. Leaves the lounge area as a comfortable evening lounge without the faff of having to make a bed up..

My van is 3850kg like yours and I passed my test a little earlier than 1987, it was in 1965 :D I will be taking it to a weighbridge once we have got it the way we want it, still a lot to do though.

My mechanic is very familiar with the 2.8 engine, so he will be looking after it.

I‘ve never heard of Lanoguard, but it sounds like a great idea that I can investigate further. This van is a long term plan for us, so anything we can do to keep it healthy is worth while.

We’re planning lots of interesting trips and getting excited about all the extra space after several years of our much loved but comparatively cramped Autosleepers Clubman GL. Hope you have many happy times with your van.

Lanogaurd is a rust and moisture inhibitor but you have to apply it yearly but well worth the effort it protects everything and is safe to use on everything unlike some of the underbody treatments
It actively rejects rust and moisture out of your chassis and also protects it there is some videos on u tube about it it impressed me to use it as my van is 24 years old and like you I would like to keep it as long as possible!.
After about 4 weeks the lanogaurd will start to turn black that's normal it also gives a professional Finnish to the under sealing job !.
But it's the unladen weight that's the most crucial at the moment 👍.
All the rest will work itself out in the end.😀.

I actually renewed my vans cam belt and I posted how to do it on here I think I had it under cam belt replacement or renewal ?.
An easier job than I thought but I was cheating as I have a hgv workshop at my disposal with a hgv pit that made applying the lanogaurd easy plus being inside no wind to blow the lanogaurd onto the paint of the van !.
Sorry I haven't gotten round to posting it on here yet 😕!.
That thing called life gets in the way!.
Anyway back to the grind 🙁!.
