I spoke to the service manager at ALKO a number of years ago and he informed me that it is perfectly acceptable to raise one wheel at a time clear of the deck and to use 6 - 8 pumps from the grease gun. Of the recommended greases I found Shell Retenax LX the easiest to locate.
One side at a time is ok. The axle seems to have a separate torsion bar for each side.
I think this because when I was getting my wheel changed by the breakdown service only one side was jacked up and I could see the 'free movement' of a few inches once the wheel was off the ground while the service man was working the wheel bolts.

I've just been advised by Alco UK that they also recommend COMMA LM high melting point grease available from Motorfactors such as Partco and Leamoco etc.

I tried to purchase Castrol LM grease but without success - even Halfords were out of stock.

Hope this helps.
