Is it worth having, anyone used it?
It is renewal time again and every year they try to sell us the legal cover but I seem to remember stories about it being a waste of money.

Interesting point, perhaps you should check and see what legal cover you have with the AA or RAC, there are others as well. Some home insurances have this included as personal cover, is it the same and are we inadvertently paying for both.In some trades one had to have public indemnity.

If you never have to claim, it is money 'wasted', but like all insurances, it is only in a claim situation that its true worth becomes apparent.

We have it on all of our insurances, private and company.

I've always been told to actively not have it.
It's a deal the insurance company strikes up with a legal firm to hand them you case.

Sadly the work often gets passed top the lower minions who just want a quick solution.

Far better to seek your own legal representation should you need it. And if you are in the right you won't be picking the bill up anyway.
If you are in the wrong even legal cover isn't going to help.

Highly highly Recommended

to the tune of ÂŁ44,000 when I had my big whoopsie on a motor bike

the farmers fault not mine

I was not passed down to a minion (like you do in no win no fee claims)

also as other poster says if you need it its invaluable

a big YES from me too

When I was rear ended in my car and trailer and ended up with a cracked C5 vertebra my legal lady was fantastic

She herself had had a similar accident and wanted to positively help me out.

From crash to final payout took around 18 months, however, because she was so forceful she managed to get an interim payment out of the other side's insurers - almost unheard of.

This interim payout meant that I was not put in a position of 'having' to accept the offers from the other side.

My car was fully repaired, I got a new trailer in place of my ÂŁ400 rundown one, my motorcycle inside the trailer was fully repaired by me as allowed by the other sides assessor 8) - he also allowed me a new ÂŁ2000 trailer  . Then after getting all my out pocket expenses settled without a qualm I got my final health and pain payout.

I was well pleased

Why do you need it on all your policies?

Surely you only need one and can use it for any claim?.???

I am a member of the CSMA motoring club and it comes free with the membership so don't have it on any of my motoring policies

The only time I tried to use it to recover a bad debt, the insurance company declined my claim because the loan/debt was initiated (12 years) before the insurance was active (11 years).

Because our home policies for house and car and our factory policies for Vans, Buildings and Employee Liability are all with separate companies, and each are set up with the their own fee for the Legal Expenses cover.

You don't 'have' to have it. We have it and are happy to pay the small premium for the additional cover it provides outside of the main policy.

If you check your motor policy for legal expense cover it is usually quite a small amount.
