Hi

We are at a campsite in Wales and we think there is a problem with the gear selector, it has gone floppy and we can only seem to get 3rd or 4th gears, the lever doesn't seem to self locate into neutral.

This did happen before and the motorhome dealership we bought the van from said they had fixed it and it was simple to do.

Our next trip out and it has gone again, does anybody have any diagrams or advice on what to look for.

Thank you.

Manual Gear box ?

age and model of base vehicle ?

are you members of a breakdown company ?

have you started engine & tried to move ?

( are the wheels spinning on the wet grass ?)

Is the temperature well below zero ?
I had a Ducato gear linkage cable freeze on me once could only get 1st & 2nd until it warmed up ?

I have the Workshop manual for a 2.7 Sprinter. Slight changes pre>post 2003 but basically it's two cables with ball joints at the end.
I have tried to copy this to you but to get it down to 1meg makes it unreadable. Possibly the cable a has become unattached.
From the drawings I cannot decide whether you access the cables from the top (gearchange) or underneath (Gearbox). Be nice if you could just take the stick out and access both ends.

Best of luck ( bet the vehicle recovery blokes know the quick fix)

Thank you for the replies, I forgot to mention the technical side of the things, it is manual, 2003 and diesel. We have now got the recovery guy here, so fingers crossed he can fix it and we can carry on our holiday.

If you subscribed, it is not expensive, you could benefit from a lot more than just a quick reply when you had an emergency.
There are a lot of us and we are nicer people than you may think, well I am anyway.

Alan :)
