Hi all,
does anyone have one of these alarms fitted to their van and if so do you know if they are safe to leave active on ferry crossings?
About to leave for Spain and the two page manual that came with the van is useless!!!

Thanks
John

Hi,
I believe that Meta alarms are part of the strikeback package (could be wrong) and if so they are the people to contact. I suppose it depends what features are fitted on your system, if it can be triggered by movement or internal movement you would probably need to leave it off,
regards,
Chris

How will you be able to recognise the sound of your alarm among all the others that will be going off . . . . constantly . . . . for the whole journey!!! 8O

It seems to be a recent thing, and I think it is mostly car drivers who are the plonkers, but for the past couple of years every crossing we have made has been to the melodious accompaniment of at least half a dozen alarms.

Apart from any other consideration, who among the crew (or anyone else) is going to take the slightest notice when so many go off . . . all together and the time! 8O

Dave

P.S. Some of the comments from the lorry drivers add a bit of spice to an otherwise boring journey!

I made the mistake of not disabling the movment alarm on my tracker. Lost count of the text alerts I got in an hour and a half. while on the ferry.

Problem is I don't have the pin to electronically disable the alarm, hence my question. I'll contact the installer, Communicar in Kent, or Vanbitz tomorrowif I haven't figured out a workaround by then.

Figured out that I can lock the vehicle without arming the alarm if I lock the cab doors with the key not the remote. Hab door can be locked separately. Problem solved.

Thanks
John
Glad you sorted it John.

I was wondering why you couldn't do exactly that - but assumed there was some feature of the alarm about which I know nothing . . . hence the silence!

Hi Dave - I didn't know what features this alarm had either - mind Oaktree didn't even think it had an alarm!!!!! Did wonder if it would be armed via the central locking solenoids, but it seems not. Will still speak to the installers though to get a better understanding and see if I can get the PIN for the alarm.

Thanks

Further update for anyone else with the same alarm or problems.
The alarm is most likely a Meta HTB Top Can 5. My van is a 2008 Duacato based Autotrail and these are compatible with this alarm operating system, i.e. it uses the van's original key fob to operate. There is no requirement for a emergency PIN, the alarm can be silenced by switching on the ignition. The alarm recognises this and shuts off, even if the spare key is used.
As for ferry crossings, the alarm can be armed as normal as there are no vibration/movement sensors. It will not go off!!!
I'll probably still just lock the doors though.........just in case!!!

Other than you will be told not to arm any alarm system when the on the boat. You wouldn't be the first people to have a problem disarming an alarm in or around a busy port due to the ports radio system! And when you complain your reminded that you were told "not to arm the alarm"

To anyone else that has a Top Can5 the over ride function described above only works on the Ducatto range, other chassis need an additional over ride for cases like the problem at ports
