Milenco Ramps Break Up On Use!

I have a set of Milenco triple ramps which get used infrequently, however the last Bank Holiday I used then on a grass pitch and the first level snapped off when I backed onto them:surprise:

Looking at the section that broke there are air pockets within the plastic moulding which has of course weakened them.

I contacted Milenco via their website but no response, so tried again a couple of weeks later, and no response - nothing!:frown2:

Speaking to a couple of dealers, one said they no longer stock them for quality reasons and the other admitted they have seen a few of these breaking in the same way.

I need to replace them, but there is no way I will purchase Milenco products again!

The honeycomb design doesn't seem to offer the strength needed particularly on the first section where the ramps are at their thinnest. They also fill up with water which is annoying.

Maybe I should't expect ÂŁ35 ramps to last more then half a dozen times?

The Fiamma 'Jumbo' ones seem much sturdier.

I've just bought some yellow, plastic Camco RV chocks. Would you believe there's a "best before date" on them? What it actually says is "do not use after 08/2018". So I guess these plastic components have a shelf life but that's not an excuse as to why nearly new ones should fail.

Wow, that's not a very long shelf life!

I think the Milenco ones have a design flaw. When you look at the amount of plastic around the weakest part (level 1) it's not a lot, and when they have air pockets in the mould it compounds the problem.

Feel totally let down by Milenco, through their complete lack of response.

Friends of mine have had the same problem , and they took them back to the supplying dealer who gave them a new set ,apparently there are bad batches out there that Milenco know about , touch wood not had any problems with mine .

Take them back where you bought them, the Sale of Goods Act requires items to be of merchantable quality and fit for purpose - ramps that break in that manner are not fit for purpose.

Your contract is with the person that sold them to you, NOT the manufacturer and the person that sold them must deal with you at once by repair (no), replacement(similarly no) or full refund (best choice.

If you bought them via the internet similar rules apply BUT with the added extra of getting all postage costs refunded too - the Distance Selling Regulations are what to look for....

Don't accept shoddy goods - let the dealer go back to the manufacturer and tell them they are rubbish - that is NOT your job.

penquin's info is spot on.

When you go o the dealer you might need proof that you bought them there - if you do not have the receipt or invoice maybe you have a card or bank statement showing that you paid the dealer for them. Otherwise they could say they did not sell them.

Also write out the exact wording of 'not of merchantable quality' and/or 'not fit for purpose' under the Sale of Goods Act. This will make them realise that you know your rights.

At three years of age I think you are omto a loser with the dealership. Items such as this are subject to wear and tear, plus deterioration of plastic due to UV light etc. I appreciate that you have not used them very much BUT you have no proof of that.

Goods must last a "Reasonable period of time" and I suspect any court would view 3 years for a plastic item that is expected to support a Motorhome as reasonable (Personally I would be pretty miffed if mine failed) Having siad that I had a sewt of Yellow Fiamma ramps that failed (crushed) after about 3 years, I emailed Fiamma directly with a couple of pictures. 10 days later a brand new set arrived, RESULT !!!!

MrPlodd is right I think: the SOGA is all based on reasonableness and after a year with no proof of usage I personally don't think they would be obliged to do anything. However, IF you are a customer of theirs; or perhaps bought your MH from there (or would like to do so in the future); they might do the good will thing.

My quads broke when I used them once....but that's coz I drove over the top of them:surprise:

What a tool I felt....lucky that the sharp plastic bits that broke off didn't wreck my tyres tbh. Good news was though that once I had filed down the sharp bits they fitted so much better in my main man locker in the MH...so I could get even more stuff in:grin2:

Fiamma Jumbo ones for us, each screwed onto a 3' length of scaffold board. The Jumbo's feel very solid indeed. Won't need them when we get auto levelling fitted lol - I wish.

David (Klyne) - we also have two extra 4' lengths of scaffold board to give us extra lift at the front. If all this fails, out come the 8 tonne bottle jacks and more wooden blocks.

Thanks for all your advise guys, and here is a quick up-date.

I spoke to Chelston's (who I brought them from). They have had yet another person with a similar broken Milenco ramp, so they had one spare after replacing this other customer's one, and this spare one they have put aside for me to have!

Now that is good customer service from Chelston's. And in case you are wondering, still absolutely nothing from Milenco.

The only problem is what to do when another one breaks .......
