Mejannes le Clap is pretty good - quite large and the riverside pitches obviously are very sought after.

Good facilities. Shop on site. Cheese seller visits one evening a week - also wine seller.

Be aware of Ran du Chabrier on the other side of the river, unless you like that sort of site. If in doubt Google for more info.

Has anybody been to camping naturiste du port La Ronde? Is it good?
Jim
Hi Jim

If you mean Le Moulin de La Ronde at Vatan, then yes, we were there for a night last week.

It makes a good stopover for a night or more. The toilets and washing facilities etc are good - there's a new block in the camping field. It is very handy for the nearby autoroute.

We thought it a touch expensive at 20.50 euro for two plus hookup, but the price will be lower from 1 September. But it was very convenient for our stopover on the way south and we would stay there again. We arrived early in the day so we could enjoy the sun in the afternoon.

Should add, we met a British couple who stay there a few nights every year, because they like the peace and quiet.

Our visit to the Dordogne in July nearly saw us on a naturist site.

I had contacted brother in law to see if there were any vacant pitches on the site that they were on, unbeknown to me it was a naturist site.

Dozens of empty pitches he told me due to th epoor weather, but added that I would not need many clothes as it was a naturist site.

My phone was on loudspeaker, I looked at Lady p`s face, without even opening her mouth I could see th eword NO written all over her face.

In short I supose to expose Lady p`s soft curvy Rubenesque physique to my brother in law may have been better than her sister exposing her Lowryesque body to me.

So we stayed a few miles away.

When we did meet up they were complaining that all the occupants on site were wearing jumpers and shorts as it was cold. Or worse still raining.

Dedication for you.

Reflecting back on our short French tour in August / September, I thought it might be worth putting a note of the 8 naturist sites we visited. They're listed in the order we stayed

If anybody is making plans for 2012 and wants more info on any of the following, then just ask.

Le Moulin de la Ronde
36150-Vatan
Indre
GPS: N:47° 3' 54.41" - E:1° 48' 4.17"
www.moulindelaronde.com

A good stopover site, less than a mile off the A20 Autoroute (free) south of Orlean and Vierzon, at Vatan. Large open field with excellent toilets and showers in a newish block. Hook-ups available. Small swimming pool. Owned and run by a mature French couple.

Next stop:

Centre de Vacances Naturiste Creuse Nature
Route de Bétête D15
F-23600 Boussac (ACSI)
GPS: N:46° 20' 56.79" - E:2° 11' 10.62"
www.creuse-nature.com

Situated in the Creuse region of the Limousin.

Unfortunately, we endured 24 hours of heavy rain and cool temperatures here, so no photos. Most of the pitches are set within woodland, with plenty of shade (which we didn't need!). Dutch owned and operated, with excellent facilities. Very attractive outdoor pool, as well as a smaller indoor one. Nice restaurant and bar too. Staff friendly and is in the ACSI discount scheme, which worked fine. Free wi-fi too.

Third stop on our tour:

Camping Naturiste Lous Suais
87460 Cheissoux
Haute Vienne
GPS: N:45° 49' 4.15" - E:1° 39' 11.52"
www.loussuais.com

Situated about 15-20 miles east of Limoges.

One of our favourite sites - Dutch-owned again - situated on a hillside with stunning views from the van. Also a huge lake for swimming, sailing or fishing. We parked at the top of the site, but reception is down a long steep slope, near the water's edge - need to be reasonably fit. Great atmosphere. Discounts for British Naturism members outside July and August. Free wi-fi around reception.

Check-out the pictures on their website: http://www.loussuais.com/uk/fotoboek.htm

Our fourth stop, and another favourite:

Le Coteaux de l'Herm
Lacoste
F-24580 Rouffignac (ACSI)
GPS: N:45° 4' 15.42" - E:0° 58' 19.45"
www.naturisme-dordogne.com **

(**Website message 30.12.11 - This page is under maintenance, please try again later this week)

Situated in the Dordogne, this Dutch-owned site also had fine open countryside views and good facilities. An unusual above-ground swimming pool, rather like an overgrown children's pool - but no less appealing for that. The nearby pretty village of Rouffignac is famous for its caves and pre-historic drawings. Also, interesting history of German activity during the war.

ACSI discount available here, plus free wi-fi.

On our fifth stop of the tour we joined a Suntrecker rally for three days. Suntreckers is the UK-based naturist camping and caravanning club. http://www.suntreckers.org.uk/

Laulurie en Périgord
Laulurie
24330 La Douze (Suntreckers)
GPS: N:45° 3' 52.20" - E:0° 53' 18.60"
www.laulurie.com

A long-established French-owned site in the heart of the Dordogne, less than ten miles from our previous stop at Le Coteaux de l'Herm! It was great to meet up with more than thirty British units from Suntreckers. The grounds were extensive, but we were sited in a sheltered pitch surrounded by 10-foot high laurel! Generally, we prefer more open pitches, but the site was very busy, especially with the rally so we were happy to take what was available.

There's a large attractive pool, but the design of the sides is unusual and makes for slightly dodgy access if you're not careful - one person suffered a nasty gash on their leg whilst we were there.

The internet is available at a modest charge - first 10 minutes free. Connection is by plugging a cable into your laptop, rather than wi-fi.

Next stop, and site number 6:

Terme d'Astor
St-Avit-Rivière
F- 24480 Bouillac (ACSI)
GPS: N:44° 45' 29.00" - E:0° 54' 7.00"
www.termedastor.com

Situated in the southern Dordogne.

A Dutch-owned resort run by an absolutely charming young couple. Lots of space and excellent facilities. Free wi-fi is available across the whole site and one of the nicest swimming pools we came across. Although in the family for some years, much evidence of recent investment around the place - smart modern sunbeds etc. Another place where ACSI discount is available.

Suntreckers have a rally scheduled for the first week in September 2012, so we're most likely going back.

Last but one naturist site on our tour - number 7:

Domaine Laborde
Paulhiac
47150 Monflanquin (ACSI)
GPS: N:44° 36' 50.00" - E:0° 50' 8.00"
www.domainelaborde.com

A four-star site on the border of the Dordogne and the Lot regions. A huge resort that was surprisingly busy for mid-September. All the facilities are first-class and included: outdoor pools, an impressive waterslide, indoor pool, sauna, restaurant, bar, shop etc. Free wi-fi. ACSI discount rates too.

The only down side for us was that the owners had two large cages of assorted birds, which we weren't too comfortable about in principle. Added to which, the darn things started making a hell of a din between 4.30am and 5am! Can't understand why anybody would stick them in the middle of a campsite. The site was large enough that it was possible to escape the dawn chorus, but unfortunately the birds were close to the best pitches. Grrr.
Otherwise, a great site.

The end - site number 8:

Le Couderc
24440 Naussannes
Dordogne (Suntreckers)
GPS: N:44° 45' 23.00" - E:0° 42' 8.00"
www.lecouderc.com

Back into the heart of the Dordogne and another Suntrecker rally at Le Couderc naturist resort.

A field was reserved exclusively for the rally, which had its own toilet and shower block. The facilities were a little dated, but perfectly serviceable and clean.

Another lovely pool, restaurant, bar and shop too. Wi-fi was available across the site, but there was a fee to use it.

The sun shone bright on our last morning (as it had for most of our holiday) and setting out for home was tough - in fact, the weather deteriated markedly as we headed north.

Phew - that's it for now!

Hi Mike

Thanks for posting these, some great sites to visit. What we need now is a way to flag these sites on the database. :D

Mick
Hi Mick - thanks. And yes, afraid I'm not sure how to flag them on the database either?

Have added a couple more pics from naturist Domaine Laborde, showing the indoor pool building and the big slides (much enjoyed by the adults when we were there in September  )

Cheers, Mike

Discount Naturist Camping In France

We are planning a couple of extended naturist trips to France this year with the motorhome and have been investigating off-season discounts available through the two popular schemes - Camping Card ACSI and Camping Cheques.

As most on here will know, both offer significantly reduced prices for camping outside peak season; and the good news is that each scheme covers a number of naturist sites. Typically, with ACSI the fixed price for naturist sites is €16 Euro per night, for two people (and a dog), a motorhome pitch and electric hook-up and VAT. (La La Genese is only €14). In the case of Camping Cheques, they cost £13.95 GBP per night, for much the same provision as ACSI.

In France, these prices are usually significantly less than can be obtained without the discount scheme - and in some cases the peak season (when the discount is not available) is as little as 4 or 5 weeks. No need to book in advance and stay for as long or short a time as preferred.

In case it is of assistance to anybody else, I have posted below the scheme and seasonal dates available for the various naturist sites:

Well we could all be in that part of the world at the same time! We're planning on leaving the UK straight after the August Bank Holiday, travelling down to the S of F and then on through Spain to Portugal. We'll be staying at naturist places throughout so may bump into one of you?

Maybe we should arrange to meet up somewhere?

Cheers

I don't think we'll get as far as Spain this year, but we are planning to go to France at the end of August - heading first to the Dordogne to spend a few days at Terme d'Astor on a Suntrecker rally. After that, not sure but most likely stay at a few other naturist sites in the south-west that we haven't been to before.

We'll certainly look out for you. And in any case have a good trip and let us know how you got on when you return.

Cheers
Mike
