News (RSS) Feeds

I have just downloaded IE7. This has a new feature, ie news (RSS) feeds. It is intended so that sites carrying news and the like can have this picked up automatically by a newsreader or other program in the computer.

IE7 supports this, and it works well with some sites (eg BBC)

On Motorhome Facts, it identifies the site as carrying a feed, but when you try to read the feed IE says "Internet Explorer does not support feeds with DTD's" (a DTD is a document type definition)

I am not sure why the site is carrying feeds, but if it is to me it would make sense if it was done in a way that is supported by IE7.

I wonder of anyone technical would care to comment?

(Overall I rather like IE7, it has a better interface than IE6, and as well as carrying feeds, it has tabbed browsing, a bit like Firefox)

I do not run IE7 so cannot comment on what is going on at "your end" but I do know that the newsfeeds from MHF do work correctly with the majority of standalone newsreaders. When Nuke added them to the site there were some teething troubles but they were soon sorted. I am sure that Nuke will have a look at whether there is a compatabilty problem withthe IE7 browser.

But to put your mind at rest ...these newsfeeds are great for actual news sites but having given the MHF newsfeed a good try I can tell you that it is better to visit the front page of MHF or use one of the links such as "posts since my last visit" also if you are really interested in a thread use the watch this thread feature and the Watched Topics Link <<

Fair enough - I wasn't aware that the site had a news feed until I ran IE7, and I am quite happy using the site the way I have been.

Its just that with IE7 its slightly "in your face" in that it identifies the fact that there IS a newsfeed (with a coloured ICON and a warning buzzer) and then it doesn't work!

May of course be a problem my end, and also IE7 is not yet general release, it is Release Candidate 1, so it may be a glitch in IE7 as well.
