Hello, I am new to this forum and have great hopes that someone out there may be able to help me.

I have two problems with my Oyster system, one simple and one more complicated (I think!). The cable connector on my LNB has broken and I need to find where I can obtain a replacement. This is the problem I 'thought' was simple, however due to the cable being fairly thin, at least compared to Sky cable, I have been unsuccessful in finding a supplier. Can anyone help on this one please?

The second problem is that I cannot find a anyone who is prepared to repair or service these systems, they only carry out installations. Before the LNB connector expired, when the system finished searching for the Astra satellite, despite the panel declaring this had been found, I still had to fine tune it manually. Can anyone help with this one please?

Thank you in anticipation

Hi Enjohn,

We had the same problem with having to manually tune for Astra 2, this is due to a new Arabian satellite that is in a close orbit to Astra. The software in the Oyster system needs updating to fix the problem.
TSC sorted this out quickly and as Russell said they are very helpful. I am sure they would also sort out the coax as well!

Oyster Satellite Problems

Many thanks to Russell and Neil for their quick responses with information about Robert Jackson from TSC. I have spoken to him on his mobile today and he is going to rectify the problems at my home address.

I will update you when this has been done.

Kind regards

I am also having problems with my Oyster system. I was assured by Ten-Haaft Germany that the problem was the LNB and they offered to send me a new one. This was not possible as we were wandering. On my return I asked them to send it making clear it was a dual LNB. I had to keep emailing them and it took 4 weeks to arrive, a single LNB! As I am about to go away again, sailing this time, they have left it too late yet demand the old one be returned in 4 weeks. That is before we return from our sailing trip. I have removed the old LNB to at least try the single LNB connected to just the Oyster controller. The connector to the controller was in poor condition and came apart, I suspect it might be the cause of the problem. The other connector was for a larger diameter (normal) cable and had been fitted with the self amalgamating tape jammed down the large hole insulating the cable screen from the connector body. I have to find out if this was deliberate to avoid earth loops or bad fitting. I also need two of the special size F connectors! I have copied some of my emails to Ten-Haaft UK but they have not made any comment. Any one have helpful comments please?

oyster in portugal

We are hoping that you can assist with a problem that may be fixable at our end.The sat searches and finds astra 2 on its panel but the tv screen says no connection ,unplug and try in 5 mins. When I check the services/reception info it says not locked, does not show the normal code and has no signal stregnth and no signal quality. Is it because we are out of the signal range even though the oyster panel shows astra 2 found ?I have tried moving the LNB to its Portugal setting +30 instead of the England of +14 but no use so put back to its original setting.
We are in Portugal but have recieved sat reception ok in Malaga ? We use a 85mm dish with 12v sky digi box.
Do people have these sat systems serviced ?

Hope you can help

One of my friends here in Spain had a problem with their twin LNB auto skew oyster. The box was sent back to germany and checked, various people had a go at fixing it before they rang me. The fault lay in the F connector to Co-ax fitting. They ordered the proper fittings from the UK. which promply arrived I have fitted (crimped on) and now there is no problem . I spoke to Daryl who i know answers questions on here and did get some advice from him for which I thank him . So its good to know that Oyster owners can get service from a few pèople in the UK. One thing I really dont like is the small dia co-ax its just too flimsy and fiddly. My friends dont possess a proper manual for the system and i.ve not really spent much time playing with the Oyster system but I guess you set it to the appropriate region eg southern spain then set it to allow switching channels then maybe give preference to Astra 1 down here but once its found astra 1 switch to a Astra 2 channel and it auto switches. This I found was the fastest way to get this unit to find and lock on to an Astra 2 channel. Faster than giving pref to Astra 2 and searching directly for an Astra 2 channel. If anyone can offer any advise to improve reception or speed up searching with this system please feel free. Or even better post a copy of the manual on here for download :)
So if no picture check with a meter that there is a signal at the end of the co-ax before it enters the receiver
