Peugeot/Autocruise/V5C don't agree - What am I driving?

I've been having lots of fun over the last few days trying to match up the details in the documentation passed over in my owners pack.

According to the Autocruise documentation, my 2002 Wentworth is on a 3.2 mtr wheelbase with a 2.5 TDi engine / GVW 3400kg

My V5C tells me it is a Boxer 320 with a 2.8 HDi engine with a plated weight of 3200kg.

The actual wheelbase is 3.7 mtr. The original Peugeot plate (I can't find any other) gives a GVW of 3400kg.

The Peugeot dealers' database confirms that the vehicle left the factory with a 2.8 HDi engine but their records do not confirm the wheelbase or the original plated weights.

According to the Peugeot handbook, a Boxer with a 3.7mtr wheelbase should have a GVW of either 3250kg or 3500kg.

And here I am trying to work out what I'm driving and whether or not I'm overweight.

I'd appreciate any tips from anyone who might have had similar problems trying to confirm vehicle details.

I would suggest that you march smartly back to the dealer you bought it from and demand that HE sorts it out.

The first thing I would check is that the VIN number of your MH matches the VIN number shown on the V5. (Also check that the plate carrying the VIN number has not been tampered with) If it doesnt match then the company that you bought it from has a big problem !!!!

HE sold it to you
HE is the one you have a contract with and
HE is the chap who needs to sort it out PRONTO !!!!!

(Dont confuse wheelbase which is the distance between the point of contact with the ground of the frront and rear axles with the overall length which will allways be greater )

The VIN plate / engine numbers on the MH do match the V5C. I can't see any sign of tampering on the VIN plate (which is stamped "Automobiles Peugeot").

The 3.7mtr w/base is measured to point of contact as you say. That leads to one of the curiosities - the Peugeot handbook I have doesn't list a vehicle with that w/base with a GVW of 3400kg.

I'm waiting to hear from Peugeot whether or not they are going to go digging into their archived records to find out the specifications at construction. That would at leaset give me a base line.

Loughrigg,

If you want we can try and help. Although we wont have your vans records on file we will try and assist.

If you email jfisher@swiftleisure.co.uk with the details of your van and V5 he can speak to Peugeot and advise how best to get this resolved if we can.

Thanks
Andy
Hi Andy

Many thanks for the offer. I've been promised a call back from Peugeot on Monday or Tuesday, so I'll wait and see if that materialises first.

Its almost certainly 3400kg, the plate is factory fitted and is what VOSA will be interested in. The only reason it would be lower is if for some reason the converters decided to downrate the vehicle, which would be very strange!

I would kick up a big fuss if they try and replate it any lower!

I would suggest that you walk in a normal manner and at a normal speed back to the dealer and discuss your problem with him in a reasonable way.

Usually has better results. Nobody died. ;)

Paperwork

Hi

As frustrating as it is, and irrespective of fault, please do get it sorted though. I always recall some advice from Gillian (Autostatus) when I started motorhoming.

"Make sure all your paperwork is correct. Anything else you may have forgotten can usually be sorted during the journey"

It is very good advice and very true.

I had the same shananigins with my previous van, the differences equated to vehicle type and number of axles. It was a farce, but I got there in the end. As a protest, when I retaxed the van, I paid with 10p and 20p coins!

Here is the link to the saga!
