We've had a Pro Active Phantom Tracker since mid May and admit to having inadvertantly left the sensor on when setting off ocasionally. The response time has generally been around 30 minutes, once around 15 minutes but never within 10 minutes!

Initially we had a problem in that the motion sensor was not working. We had left it switched on by accident and realised we hadn't had a phone call - so we rang Phantom - they could track us but hadn't had an alarm call. An engineer was sent out and it transpired that the sensor had been fitted incorrectly in the first place.

This was fixed and since then has worked OK except that the response time is slower than a lot of people on here are quoting. Maybe we've got the same problem as Paul and Jackie! Next time we move the van we're going to contact Phantom and see how long it takes for the motion sensor to alarm them.

Hi

I am looking at alarms/immobilisers/trackers for our new MH which we should have next week. I like the look of the Strikeback alarm as it will also alarm external lockers & bikes etc. But I am not sure about the effectiveness of a tracker or an alarm pager system.

As I understand it, both methods use a PAYG SIM card in the transmitting device which sends a message to your mobile phone. What happens if the SIM in the MH has no network to send a text message(which network is used? T-mob? Orange?). You would also be in trouble if the receiving mobile has no reception(this is often the case in rural areas..T-mobile doesn't work much in the lakes!). Surely this system is totally dependant on the reception of the mobile phone network where your MH is parked...it is therefore down to luck whether you receive a text when your alarm is activated or 30 minutes later when the van has been driven to a good reception area by a thief. Worse still, if the alarm goes off & there is no signal to send a text message you will find your van burgled when you return to it 8O

Please correct me if I have misunderstood the method of operation for these devices.

We have had one of these installed in various caravans and now our MH.

You can control it via your mobile phone and check on the vans position by logging onto www.followus.co.uk and buy some credits. It will also tell you when the batteries are going down and if the van is being moved.
Works for us at a minimum cost after paying the ÂŁ199. Must have paid for itself by now as we have had it about 4 years

Janice & Rex poor responce times

Hi Janice

I noticed your post and looked into your activations on our system and I agree that the responce was to slow. i see here it was 14 minutes! I have recovered caravans in less time than this. Though i suppose we had been tracking your sunliner for those 14 minutes and would have continued to do so until it was recovered. The point is taken though and I will look into the resources being employed in the call centre. Though I hear of hardly any complaints it may be an oportune time to cast an eye in that direction.

Your gallery is great by the way. I am something of a novice with Forums etc and have not encountered your kind of submission before. fantastic

I have a couple of Phantom units, one which I had moved from my previous caravan to the M/H - a big selling point considering how long (not!) I keep vehicles !!

I also had a pro-active one fitted to our Scout Group Transit minibus and its fine after we worked out how to adjust the sensitivity (closing the sliding side door triggered the motion sensor!!).

Phantom tracker

Hi just a word of warning, We have just purchased a Rapido 983f , we were told it still had 3+ years of paid up subsciption on the Phantom tracker unit and all we had to do was change the ownership details, Wrong  I was expecting some sort of admin fee but not to be told I would have to stump up ÂŁ374 to enable the system to run as the subscription was NOT transferable !!! you have been warned

Hi Codfinger. ÂŁ374 is a strange figure to be quoted. Give me a call on 08451 303301 and Ill talk this through with you. The normal fee for taking over someone elses unit is ÂŁ125.

Just adding my name to the list of satisfied customers.

I've had a pro-active tracker on each of my MHs, linked to the alarm system.

On the latest MH, the initial installation was flawed, despite having been "tested" by the installation engineer. Phantom sent their engineer to my home, and put things right. Since then, no problems whatsoever.

Response (to accidental alarms) has always been within 5 minutes.

I keep opening the MH garage, without unsetting the alarm, so Phantom probably have my number on speed dial! Seriously though, the odd false alarm does prove everything is still as it shoudl be.

Good to see another business willing to join the forum - I'm sure the benefits will work both ways.

Mark, is was told by your office that the subscrition was non transferable so I would have to pay ÂŁ25 transfer fee plus pay ÂŁ99 per year or ÂŁ349 for 5 years which I did !

we have a pro active and the motion sensor is always left off as we have a dog which we leave in the van when shopping and we have accidentaly let the alarm go off many times but no call from phantom. how do I know our van is being tracked? tricia

I should speak to them to ensure that your device is activated. As far as I'm aware they are happy to give you a location for your 'van from time to time. Also are you absolutely sure your subs are up to date? If so then they may not have received them or there may have been a clerical error somewhere.

Personally, I've set mine off in error many times over five years and have always had a quick response from them.

They've always been very helpful when I've phoned them with a problem or query.

All the best

thanks bill. i will ring them up as i know the subcription is in date as we got it with the van and paid them ÂŁ99 in march when we bought van

When I bought my Exsis a couple of years ago, we had a Phantom fitted at Hymer, Preston. Got a call whilst it was being fitted then nothing. I moved it several times without response.

Went to the Manchester show and saw Mark from Phantom and he arranged a test and an engineer. It was put right and the 'secret' switch was moved as it was the first thing that anyone could see when the door opened. A bit like having a sticker in place saying 'on/off switch for the tracker.

Response times are, on the whole extremely good except on a couple of times when I've moved it, contacted them and they have stated that the network may be down although they could pin point the van.

That said, I think they've really got there act together since then and also apologised for false alarm, last ones having been in France.

Sorry to all at Phantom but I don't think they go into the blind panic situation whenever an alarm is activated but there is peace of mind that it can be found whether or not the tracker is on.
