Status Omnidirectional aerial

I have a water leak entering the van down the aerial cable. As I don't use the aerial I want to remove it. I note the official blanking plate is quite expensive. Is there a cheaper DIY solution? Is the removal as simple as it looks(three screws)?

I would remove it and seal the hole with Sikaflex (spelling?)

If you are keen you could make a plate from any non ferrous metal or plastic, use the ex aerial as a template to drill the same pitch screwholes and seal down with Sikaflex or any silicone sealant.

But that's on my van!! You have to decide what would work on yours.

Hi Namder

Just a thought......Although you say that there is water coming down the aerial cable that may not mean that the status aerial is where it is getting in. if you have a roof lining the leak could possibly be from somewhere else and the water is just tracking down the cable.

Hi

The professionals use a piece of perspex. There are alternatives to expensive silkaflex, we found a very good one at a plumbers merchants. Fill the old screw holes with silicon, cover the hole with a piece of perspex a few inches larger than the old holes. Stick the perspex down with silicon and then run it around the outer edge as well. You could then (belt and braces) use Gaffer (duck) tape as a finale.

Before you do any of that though put a lower cover over the hole, from inside the van and then using either expanding foam or silicon fill the origonal hole.

As Mike says though the leak could well be elsewhere

Thanks to all who responded. Whilst up on the roof having a good look at the job, I noticed a small length of sealant pulled away from side/roof joint. Sealed with silicone and will give it a test this weekend as it's bound to xxxx it down. If that doesn't solve the problem I will remove the very messy aerial installation and seal as advised.
